Scar removal or revision is the name given to several surgical techniques used to change the appearance of scar tissue, blending it in with the surrounding skin area.
The techniques used to remove scar tissue can be performed on any part of the body. Most people undergo scar rejuvenation where scar tissue is highly visible, such as on the face, hands, forearms and legs.
Scar revision may not completely remove a scar but it can be used to remove facial scars, keloid scars, hypertrophic scars, and contractures.

It depends on the type of scar you have:
Facial scars – Some scars on the face cannot be completely removed but it is possible for a surgeon to re-position the scar so it matches better with the natural facial contours and lines. This can make the scar less visible.
Keloid scar – Thick, puckered dark red or brown scar tissue that grows around an incision after an operation. A surgeon cuts out the material and then the skin is sewn back together.
Hypertrophic scar – Thick red and protrusive they remain within the original incision after previous surgery. A surgeon will remove the excess scar tissue, and may re-position the original incision line.
Contractures – Loss of substantial skin through burns or other injuries that result in scar tissue pulling together sometimes restricting muscle movement. A surgeon can correct this by replacing the scar tissue with a skin graft.
