What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, otherwise known as mastopexy, is a surgery designed to lessen droopy or sagging breasts. The shape of your breasts are determined by the connective tissue, the volume and the skin.

As you age your breast tissue will not maintain the same shape and form. Gravity, and sometimes pregnancy, will eventually cause your breast to sag or droop.

The Breast Lift procedure

There are two types of breast lift. A “Full” breast lift and a “Modified” breast lift. The full breast lift involves a vertical incision between the areola and the base of the breast, incisions around the areola, or an incision song the crease underneath the breast. The doctor will decide what’s best for you.

A modified breast lift uses fewer incisions than the full breast lift and uses only an incision around the areola. This produces less scarring but the drawback is that there may be less of a change to the breast’s shape.
